Thing #5: Image Mashups

Working on this project was more difficult than I presumed because I was not familiar with the term mashup.  It took a while for me to realize that mashup for this project was a number of pictures put together to form one main picture.  I began the discovery of mashup by attempting to download Mosaicker on my android phone which is one of Dr. Cozarts favorite tools, however it was an Apple product and I was not able to access it on my android phone.

I proceeded in searching for mosaic in my android store and came across an application called Mosaic Ace.  Upon downloading the application I had one main issue which was rather frustrating.  My issue with this application was that it was trying to upload all of my pictures from my phone onto the application which were over 3000 pictures and it moved so slow that it wouldn't progress passed 1%.  After so long of waiting I just stop the downloads all together and just used what I had.

For my project I created a mashup from the Masaic Ace application using a picture of my daughter Khloe, her father Korbey, and I.  This photo was taken one of the 6 days I was in the hospital after giving birth to Khloe.  This particular picture was the master image of the mosaic.  The photos I used for the tiles of the master image consisted of  moments taken of Khloe's father and I.  Once the photos were chosen I was able to see the application create the master image with the pictures I had chosen in real time.  I loved the final product.  My favorite part of master piece was the fact that you could still view each individual picture by pressing on the tiles which would zoom in on each photo used allowing me to get the full affect.  I enjoyed it so much I proceeded in creating another image of Khloe from her first photo shoot as a newborn with more pictures of her father and I.

  1. I had a difficult time with mosaic as well, but your pics came out very nice. I will follow your directions and give it another try. Good job!
